What do you do when "Wi-Fi" won't do the job?
Most of you have wi-fi in the home already. In fact, 61% of U.S households have wi-fi in the home according to Strategy Analytics) But as you rely on wi-fi the disadvantages come to the surface. As you add more wireless devices in the home, the router will get bogged down and today's modern devices require more bandwidth too. Also, you find there are some not so hot "hot spots" in the home. For example, in the basement or on the 2nd floor coverage isn't so good as bandwidth deteriorates the further the devices is away from the wi-fi router.
Cat5 or better wiring is ideal but few households have home run structured wiring. It is likely you have daisy chained Cat3 which is designed to give you phone service and was probably installed by an electrician not a networking professional with data in mind. So, how does one solve the hot spot issue? Extend network coverage within the home? Inexpensively and without running new wiring?
Enter, power-line networking. It uses the existing 110v power wire in your home. Anywhere you have a power outlet, you have a potential networking connection.
